Privacy Policy

What we collect

Dover Dash is a free tool on CivicDelaware.com, a project of Capitol Watch USA, LLC. When you subscribe for updates, we collect the information you provide: first name, last name, and email address. We don't require an account to use Dover Dash, and browsing the bill tracker itself doesn't require you to submit any personal information.

How we use it

We use your information solely to send you updates about Dover Dash, such as new profiles, new features, or session updates. We do not sell, rent, or share your information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

Where it's stored

Subscriber information (your name, email address, and the profile you were viewing when you signed up) is stored in Dover Dash's own database (hosted by Supabase) and in Mailchimp, our email service provider. We keep it until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. If you unsubscribe, we keep your email address only to make sure we don't email you again. Mailchimp has its own privacy practices, available at mailchimp.com/legal/privacy.

How we protect it

Your information travels to us over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Our database is set up so the public can't read subscriber information; only our team can view it. Our sign-up forms also include an invisible spam filter that keeps automated bots out. No system is perfectly secure, but we limit who can see your information and keep only what we need.

Site analytics

Dover Dash uses Google Analytics and Netlify Analytics to understand how the site is used, such as how many people visit, which pages and profiles they open, what kind of device they use, and their general location (city or region). This helps us improve Dover Dash and show supporters how many people it reaches. Analytics does not tell us your name or who you are. Google Analytics uses cookies; you can block them in your browser settings, and the site will still work. Pages also load fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google's servers when a page loads. You can also opt out with Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Do Not Track and tracking across sites

Some browsers have a "Do Not Track" setting. There is no common standard for how websites should respond to it, so Dover Dash works the same way whether it is on or off. Google Analytics may collect information about your online activity over time and across different websites. You can limit this by blocking cookies or using Google's opt-out add-on above.

Our emails

Our emails tell us whether they were opened and which links were clicked, so we can see what's useful. You can limit this by turning off images in your email app.

Address lookups

If you type in your address to find your legislators or the candidates running in your district, that address is sent to the U.S. Census Bureau's free public geocoding service to find your districts. For the ballot lookup, the location the Census Bureau returns is also checked against the State of Delaware's FirstMap service to find council and election districts. Dover Dash does not store your address in its database; our hosting provider may keep standard server logs.

Your browser

Your browser remembers your page color choice. After you subscribe, it also saves a small note so the extra profiles and category search stay unlocked and you don't have to sign up again. It doesn't include your name, email, or any other personal information. On a shared computer, the next person using that browser may also see category search unlocked. Clearing the browser's data removes it.

Service providers

We use these providers to run Dover Dash: Netlify (website hosting and the small programs that power the site), Supabase (database hosting), Mailchimp (email), Google (analytics and fonts), the U.S. Census Bureau and the State of Delaware's FirstMap service (address lookups). Each has its own privacy practices.

Third-party links

Dover Dash links to external sites, primarily the Delaware General Assembly's official site (legis.delaware.gov) and the Delaware Code (delcode.delaware.gov). We aren't responsible for the privacy practices of these third-party sites.

Your choices

You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time using the unsubscribe link included in every email we send. To see, correct, or delete the information we have about you, contact us at info@civicdelaware.com.

Children's privacy

Dover Dash is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If we learn that we have, we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll post the new version on this page and change the date at the top.
