Our commitment

Dover Dash is a free tool on CivicDelaware.com, a project of Capitol Watch USA, LLC. It is meant to be usable by everyone, regardless of how they access the web. We aim to follow standard web accessibility practices so the site works well with the assistive technologies people already use, whether that's a screen reader, an alternative input device, or built-in accessibility features on a phone or computer.

What that looks like in practice

We aim to build with real, standard HTML elements rather than custom controls that behave unpredictably: buttons that are actual buttons, links that are actual links, and no hover-only interactions or unusual scroll behavior. We also aim to size and space buttons with room for error, not packed tightly together, since precise clicking or tapping can be difficult for people with tremor or other motor conditions.

Building this way is meant to help the site work with screen readers (like JAWS, NVDA, or VoiceOver), switch access, eye-tracking and gaze control, cursor-smoothing tools, voice control, and other alternative input methods, since these tools generally work by controlling standard clicks, taps, and keyboard input rather than requiring anything site-specific.

An ongoing effort

Accessibility isn't a one-time checklist, and we don't claim the site is perfect. As Dover Dash grows and adds new features, we aim to keep accessibility in mind rather than treating it as an afterthought.
